World's largest coal miner Coal India Ltd (CIL) has earmarked 126 projects having an estimated capacity of 438.04 million tonnes to be taken up during the 12th Five Year Plan, a top official said Wednesday.

Sixty of the projects would provide around 88 million tonnes in the final year (2016-17) of the Plan, company chairman S.Narsing Rao, told shareholders at the 39th Annual General Meeting.

Preliminary reports for 78 of the projects have already been prepared, while four of them have been sanctioned, Rao said in his speech.

The estimated capacity of the sanctioned projects would be 12.50 million tonne involving an estimated investment of Rs.2,294.79 crore.

The company has decided to adopt the mine-developer-operator (MDO) mode to cope with the production demand.

Rao said seven mines would be taken up in phase one.
