In a shocking incident, some unidentified persons barged into a college campus and brutally stabbed a student at Talegaon, on the outskirts of the city, on Friday morning, an official said.
According to the official from the Talegaon Police Station, the attack occurred around 11.30 a.m. when hundreds of students were on the campus of Indrayani Mahavidyalaya for Arts, Commerce and Science at Talegaon Dabhade.
Describing the attack on Chetan Dattatray Pinjan, the junior college student of Class 12 here, the police official said: "Suddenly at least two-three assailants came on a motorcycle and accosted the 17-year old victim."
"They brandished knives and and other weapons and started stabbing the boy. He fell down even as the horrified college students, teachers and other staffers looked on helplessly."
The assailants sped off on their motorcycle from the campus immediately.
The college authorities rushed the profusely bleeding student to a nearby hospital but he died from the stab injuries later in the intensive care unit.

The police have registered an FIR, launched a manhunt for the assailants and are questioning the college authorities and the students who were present in the vicinity.
Though the motive behind the attack is not yet known, previous enmity is being probed after preliminary inquiries revealed that Pinjan was involved in a heated argument and fight with some of his classmates on Thursday, the police said.
