Colourful procession on Netaji's birth anniversary in Tripura

Over 2,000 school students and tableaux depicting prevailing issues were part of a colourful procession taken out in the Tripura capital on Saturday to mark the 119th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

As many as 26 groups of students of the 68-year-old Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan highlighted terror strikes across the world, drug menace, crimes against women, earthquakes, Tripura's achievements in different fields and incidents related to India's freedom struggle.

A group of students also depicted the recent terror attack at the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot in Punjab.

Spectators gathered in thousands by the roadside to watch the procession that was flagged off by Tripura's Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty.

Government departments and NGOs also took out tableaux illustrating various national and regional issues.

"We have been organising the procession on the occasion of Netaji's birthday for the past 65 years to highlight the role, sacrifice and dedication of this great freedom fighter and India's iconic leader," said school headmaster Amulya Chandra Debnath.
