Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkiah Naidu Thursday said the National Democratic Alliance government is committed to raise the representation of women in parliament.
"We must get more women in the parliament as soon as possible and the government is committed towards women's reservation," Naidu said while addressing the Assocham Ladies League(ALL) here.
He hoped the Women's Reservation Bill would be passed in the Lok Sabha soon.
Speaking at the ALL "grassroots women of the decade achievers" awards function, Naidu said: "Today, women are not only making a mark for themselves but helping many others, especially the marginalised and vulnerable sections of society. We must be conscious towards women reservation and get more and more women in parliament."
Thirty six women leaders from over 16 states were awarded for their work towards society, women empowerment and protection of environment.
"Proactive efforts like this one are needed to highlight women's leadership across the country so that many more women are inspired to engage in society at multiple levels," said Harbeen Arora, ALL global chairperson.
