Thousands of commuters were hassled during peak hours on Monday evening as Delhi Metro's Yellow Line faced a technical glitch and trains took longer halts at stations as a result.

The DMRC attributed the glitch to a failure of overhead electrification (OHE), which was reported at 7.50 p.m. on the Samaypur Badli-HUDA City Centre route.

As the repair work went on, the DMRC resorted to running service on a single line -- the one going towards Gurgaon.

"The train services on the Yellow line between Jahangirpuri and Vishwavdiyala section was affected due to OHE problem on down line (going towards Gurgaon) since 7.50 p.m., the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement.

"Services on this section are facilitated through single line operations (up line-going towards Badli), thereby leading to minor delay of services. Necessary OHE repair work being undertaken and normalcy on this section is likely to be restored shortly," it added.

The glitch led to huge crowding at stations en route, since most people are headed back home from offices.
