Congress MP Rajeev Satav on Thursday urged the Maharashtra government to compensate the family of a student who was killed during a 10-hour shutdown in the state called by Dalit parties.
"The police lathi-charged a school going boy and the boy died. This is a case of police atrocity," Satav said in the Lok Sabha. "The family of the deceased should be given a compensation of Rs 25 lakh."
Yogesh Prahlad Jadhav, 16, was killed during police action on Wednesday in Nanded.
The 'Maharashtra Bandh' call was given by Dalit groups in protest against Monday's riots in Koregaon-Bhima in Pune district which left one person dead.
