West Bengal's transgender welfare board plans to address the issue of beggary among the community, a member said on Tuesday.
India's first transgender college principal Manabi Bandopadhyay, who is on the board said the members are "extremely concerned" about the matter.
"We are worried about it. We have to see who are true transgenders and who are camouflaging themselves as transgenders. This problem has come to the fore in the last couple of years," Bandopadhyay told IANS on the sidelines of an event here.
She said currently a census of transgenders is underway in Bengal.
"It won't take too much time to complete the count. But it is a continuing process and we are starting work with those who have declared themselves as transgenders," she said.
