The Congress does not have a "credible alternative" to BJP leader Narendra Modi, which is why it has not named its prime ministerial candidate, BJP MP Smriti Irani said Monday.

"If they (Congress) had a credible alternative, they would have declared their nominee. The fact is their party president has adopted a wait and watch policy despite the assembly poll results that prove they don't have any alternative," Irani told the media here.

She took a jibe at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, calling him a "continuous failure".

"BJP leaders like Modi or others have been the topic of conversation regarding our good results. But what has not become a topic of discussion is how Rahul Gandhi has been a continuous failure."

She said the BJP will form the next government after the Lok Sabha elections under Modi's leadership.

"The assembly poll results prove that even if they (Congress) had or name Rahul Gandhi as their nominee, it will not affect the people of the country," she said.

Irani said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was full of "contradictions".

"Emergence of a new party is a good sign for democracy, but the AAP is full of contradictions. It started off as a movement against political organisation and then formed a political party and now contested polls."
