Days after Gurudas Kamat resigned from Congress, the party remains hopeful of his coming back and is also making efforts to address reasons for his perceived grievances, a leader said.

A senior party leader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Kamat was unhappy over the way some issues had been handled by Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam and party general secretary Mohan Prakash, who is incharge of Maharashtra.

"An apparent reason for his unhappiness was the way issues relating to Mumbai North East, the constituency he has represented in Lok Sabha, had been handled," the party leader said.

He said efforts were being made to persuade Kamat to withdraw his resignation.

Party sources said that the central leadership may appoint another leader to look after its affairs in Maharashtra in the impending reshuffle.

Nirupam told IANS that no one had conveyed to him officially or unofficially that Kamat was not happy with him.
