The Congress on Thursday produced a picture showing the Rs 500-crore Katni district hawala scam accused Satish Saraogi standing together with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister of State Sanjay Pathak.
Talking to reporters, Congress's Madhya Pradesh unit chief spokesman K.K. Mishra presented the photo of Pathak standing to the left of Chief Minister Chouhan and Saraogi on his right.
This photo proves the close relations between the three, Mishra said.
Talking about the picture, Pathak told IANS: "Katni is so small a district that everyone knows everybody else and we all live like family. As far as the photo is concerned, it was taken during celebrations after the BJP victory in the 2014 Vidhan Sabha by-elections."
The hawala scam, which involved fake transactions amounting to Rs 500 crore in some Jan Dhan accounts, was uncovered by Superintendent of Police Gaurav Tiwari and named many influential people, including Saraogi, for their involvement in it.
As the police were probing the case, Tiwari was transferred out on Monday. Many said the move was politically motivated.
