The Congress Wednesday supported Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, who Monday said he does not want Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to become India's prime minister as he does not have secular credentials.

"He is a Nobel laureate. He has a particular ideology but we should respect him," Congress spokesperson Raj Babbar told reporters.

Coming out strongly against Modi, the well known economist had also criticised his model of governance in Gujarat, saying he did not approve of it.
