The main opposition Congress party said on Friday that its President Rahul Gandhi was not bound to respond to CPI-M criticism over his decision to contest the Lok Sabha election from Wayanad in Kerala.
Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala taunted the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
"The CPI-M today has a presence only in Kerala as it has been relegated far behind in West Bengal and Tripura. Gandhi does not need to reply to them. We will reply," Chennithala told the media.
CPI-M leaders including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan continued to criticise Gandhi by stating that he had taken on the Left and not the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by contesting from Kerala.
