The Congress party has decided to observe former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's birth centenary celebrations in a big way with its top leadership reaching out to the people of the state, said Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president M.M. Hassan.

Hassan said that his party would use short films to highlight the failures of the three-year rule of the Narendra Modi government and the one-year rule of the Pinarayi Vijayan government in Kerala.

"Along with it, short films on Indira Gandhi would also be screened besides discussions on various issues. At every village, senior Congress leaders of the locality would be honoured," he added.

Hassan, who begins his state wide trip from Kollam on July 2, said top Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala will take part in meetings in a bid to reach out to the grassroots.

While Chandy kicks off his state wide tour from Idukki district on Monday, Chennithala will hit the road in Malappuram on July 8.

The programme would also see the planting of one lakh saplings across the state.
