Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad Thursday said interest of telecom consumers would be given priority and criteria for better governance in the telecom department will be laid down.
Interacting with officials, he asked them to follow the objectives of national interest, economic growth and consumer interest, an official statement issued here said.
He laid down three main criteria for better governance -- prompt decision making, fairness and transparency and having clearly laid down rules of business.
The telecom minister advised the officials to come out with new ideas and initiatives for a broadband revolution.
Earlier, while taking charge of the office Tuesday, Prasad said: "If Atal Bihari Vajpayee government was known for building highways, the Narendra Modi government will be known for building broadband highway."
Prasad asked the officials to shun fear in decision making and said the government shall fully back the honest decision making.
The minister also promised to look into the issues connected with the human resource in the ministry.
