Two people have died and 40 taken ill here after drinking suspected contaminated water, city's Minister of Education and Social welfare Kiran Walia said Tuesday.
The suspected water contamination took place Monday in south Delhi's NCERT Colony, said
Walia, who visited the area in the afternoon.
"Two deaths have been confirmed till now. The others have been admitted to various hospitals," she said, adding that water in the colony was being supplied by a civic agency under the central government.
"It was the Central Public Works Department which was supplying the drinking water. This could have been avoided," Walia told IANS.
Walia asked National Council Of Educational Research And Training (NCERT) director to bear the expenditure of treatment of the victims and supply safe potable water to all the households in colony.
