Former Brazil international midfielders Elias and Jadson scored either side of halftime as Corinthians defeated local rivals Sao Paulo 2-0 in their opening Copa Libertadores group match.
Elias opened the scoring at the Itaquerao stadium Wednesday with a low volley after Jadson floated a perfectly weighted pass over Sao Paulo's defence, reported Xinhua.
Jadson then made it 2-0 when he weaved into the box before seeing his shot slip through the hands of goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni.
In other matches Wednesday, Chile's Colo-Colo defeated Atletico Mineiro 2-0, six-time champions Boca Juniors won 2-0 at Chile's Palestino while Peru's Sporting Cristal drew 2-2 at Paraguay's Club Guarani.
Sao Paulo will host Uruguay's Danubio in their next match Feb 25 while Corinthians face defending champions San Lorenzo in Buenos Aires March 4.
