Top-seeded Alize Cornet of France on Sunday defeated Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in the Swiss Open final, earning her sixth career title.

Cornet, world No. 48, needed two hours to prevail over Minella and celebrate her first title since 2016, when she clinched the Hobart International crown, reports Efe.

Both players traded service breaks in the early stages of the first set, twice each, but it was Cornet who got the decisive break in the tenth game to move a set closer to the title.

Playing her first singles final, Minella seemed on her way to a comeback as she pulled ahead with a 2-0 advantage in the second set, only to lose the next two games.

Minella earned another break that gave her the opportunity to serve for the set at 5-4, but Cornet again broke back.

Having saved two match points at 6-5, Minella held serve, pushing the set into a tie break.
