The Communist Party of India (CPI), which had a seat-sharing pact with Odisha's ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the 2009 polls, said Thursday that this time it would fight the elections alone.

The party will contest four Lok Sabha seats and 27 assembly seats in the state, senior party leader A.B. Bardhan told reporters here.

The party has again fielded Bibhu Prasad Tarai, outgoing member of the Lok Sabha from Jagatsinghpur.

The other three candidates are Prasant Mishra from Balasore, Ramesh Jena from Bhadrak and Ashok Bisi from Bargarh.

Bardhan also announced the names of 18 assembly candidates and said the remaining will be announced later.

Elections for the 147-member assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats will be held simultaneously April 10 and April 17.

In the 2009 elections, the CPI won one Lok Sabha and one assembly seat.
