The CPI-M on Tuesday called for the immediate start of a political dialogue with all stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir to restore normalcy.
The government must also announce, as suggested by an all-party delegation that went to the state, confidence building measures, the Communist Party of India-Marxist said.
"It is very unfortunate that, probably for the first time since independence, largescale curfew has been imposed all across the Kashmir Valley on Bakrid," it said.
"It is, indeed, unprecedented that the faithful were not allowed to proceed to their traditional Idgah where prayers are offered on every Eid all across the valley."
The statement said: "While there can be no compromise with national sovereignty, the return to normalcy in Kashmir will have to be based on the initiation of a political dialogue with all stakeholders.
