The CPI-M on Sunday said the truth behind the death of Maoist leader Kishenji needs to come out and demanded an explanation from the Mamata Banerjee government.

"(Trinamool Congress MP) Abhishek Banerjee had recently said that Kishenji had been killed by their government in 2011. It has revealed that the Mamata Banerjee government had organised a fake 'encounter' to eliminate the Maoist leader after her objective was achieved," said party politburo member Mohammed Salim.

He alleged the Maoists had played an active role in bringing the Trinamool to power, but after assuming office, party supremo Mamata Banerjee had split with the ultra-Leftists.

"Abhishek (Banerjee) has exposed the truth," he said.

"People have every right to know the exact facts," he said.

Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of the chief minister had said: "The Mamata Banerjee government, by killing him, has proved that in days to come, people will have the final word."
