The head of a local unit of the Communist Party of China in a "poverty-stricken township" was fired Thursday after he organised an extravagant wedding for his daughter, officials said.
Yue Shuwang was party secretary of Pingdingbao township in north China's Hebei province, Xinhua reported.
He was sacked after an investigation showed he spent 200,000 yuan (over $32,000) on the wedding banquet for his daughter.
The man also received gifts worth one million yuan, according to the party.
A discipline inspection commission will further investigate the case.
