The government's budgetary proposal to ban cash donations above Rs 2,000 will affect the BJP too but it is nevertheless a courageous decision to cleanse politics of black money, BJP President Amit Shah said on Wednesday.
Shah said if citizens have no right to avoid taxes and hoard money, political parties too have no such right.
"We know we will also be affected by the decision, but we want to rid electoral politics of black money and bring in a transparent process," Shah told a rally in Bicholim town in north Goa.
"If political parties do not take donations in cash and take it by cheques, its source will not be black money and the government will be transparent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a big decision," Shah said.
Shah said that the Bharatiya Janata Party had promised to eliminate effects of black money from politics during the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaigning.
