A Delhi court Tuesday dismissed a criminal defamation case filed against union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for his remarks in January linking the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh to terrorism.

Metropolitan Magistrate Amitabh Rawat dismissed the criminal defamation case against Shinde filed by Ved Parkash Kumar.

The petitioner alleged that the home minister had wilfully made the derogatory remarks to cause ill-will and hatred among communities.

He alleged that Shinde's remarks were aimed at "polarising minority votes in the 2014 general elections".

He added that Shinde used the word "saffron as a synonym of terrorism", which was "totally absurd, wrong, mischievous and defamatory".

Shinde during a Congress conclave Jan 20 in Jaipur accused the Bharatiya Janata Party and its mentor, the RSS, of conducting terror training camps and promoting "Hindu terrorism".
