Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela feels that they can build on their wins in the last four consecutive games for a strong finish to the football season.

United are currently fifth in the English Premier League with 47 points from 28 games. In the last two games, they have beaten Arsenal and Watford and face West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

"I think the last four games have really shown the changes that have come about within the team in the last couple of months," Varela told United's official website on Saturday.

"It's clear that we've got every intention of finishing the season on an upward curve.

Varela admitted that he is motivated to repay the affection shown by the club's supporters. The Uruguayan has been taken aback by the reception his performances have received on social media and is coming to terms with the enormity of the club.

"Of course, I'm very happy with a run of four matches in the side and four victories as well. I feel enormous pride in being able to play for a club like Manchester United," the 22-year-old said.

I think the important thing is that we keep working, and I want to keep working to keep a regular place in the team so that, in time, I can reach 50, 100 or 200 games in the shirt."

When asked if he considered himself a regular in the line-up yet, he replied: "I don't really. I think my main task is to keep working on a day-by-day basis to show the coach that I am a candidate for a regular first-team spot. I wouldn't say I'm an automatic pick now, that would be a bit premature."
