Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated a co-educational residential school Wednesday that is supported by the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar.
The school at Issapur near Najafgarh in south Delhi is meant for children from the scheduled and other backward castes, as also from the minorities and orphaned children.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dikshit said, "Our government is committed to uplift the poor and under-privileged sections of the society in order to bring them at par with others."
She added, "The government would ensure that there is no case of dropout and there is 100 percent success in the examination. Further, the students would also be imparted vocational and sports training."
KISS is already running a school exclusively for tribal children at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The school is functional from the first to third standards at present and would be gradually upgraded to Class XII.
