Amidst talk of possible elevation soon, the Delhi unit of the All India Congress Committee on Saturday passed a resolution urging Rahul Gandhi to take over as party President, the first unit of the party to do so.

The resolution was passed at the first meeting of the newly-elected delegates of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee here which was attended by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, party's Delhi Incharge P.C.Chacko, Delhi unit Chief Ajay Maken, AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi and several former MPs, ministers, ex-MLAs, sitting and former municipal councillors who were elected as PCC delegates.

The resolution was read out by Chaudhry Prem Singh in which it was resolved that AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi should take over as the President of the All India Congress Committee.

"We, the newly-elected delegates to the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, unanimously pass the resolution that Rahul Gandhi, Vice President, All India Congress Committee should take over as the President of the All India Congress Committee," Singh read the resolution.
