A Delhi court has issued summons to a junior engineer of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and two others for their alleged involvement in a forgery case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last week chargesheeted DJB junior engineer Vinod Kumar, M/s Waterwell Drillers proprietor Vinod Gupta and an employee of the firm, Vinod Kumar Verma, for allegedly causing a loss of Rs.1.79 lakh to the exchequer by submitting a forged bill.

Special CBI Judge Swarna Kanta Sharma, after taking cognisance of the chargesheet, last week issued summons to the three accused and fixed the matter for Feb 1 for further hearing.

The CBI had chargesheeted the trio under various charges dealing with cheating, forgery, for using forged document, falsification of accounts and under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI alleged Verma forged a bill at the instance of Gupta who claimed an extra amount of Rs.1.62 lakh by showing purchase of a 60-metre pipe and its use for re-boring a borewell at Palam village.

The CBI said the DJB gave Rs.1,79,400 to Gupta, proprietor of the private firm which had entered into a contract agreement with the DJB for the work.

The national investigation agency alleged that as per the agreement conditions, the contractor was required to use slotted pipes of "Johnson" make in the borewell but Gupta submitted a forged bill of Rs.2,28,080 purportedly showing purchase of items, including a 60-metre pipe for Rs.1,62,000.
