Rebutting media reports that it was not providing logistics and manpower to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Delhi government on Friday threatened to take action against erring organisations.

According to a statement, the Delhi government was informed on May 1 by the home ministry about the requirement of a public prosecutor for the SIT.

"The home ministry has only sought the name of public prosecutors from the Delhi government and nothing else. All other speculation is completely baseless," the statement said.

"We have already prepared a list of public prosecutors to be sent to the ministry," it added.

The statement further said the appointment of assistant sub-inspectors, sub-inspectors and inspectors for the SIT is a matter solely within the domain of the home ministry and Delhi Police and no communication was shared with the Delhi government.

"The government takes exception to falsehoods being spread on the issue and refutes the mischievous reports in a section of the media that it has not provided logistics and manpower to the SIT," the statement said.

"Appropriate legal action will be initiated against those who published/telecast a false story and in case they fail to issue rejoinders with accurate version," it added.
