The Delhi government will set up a cell and monitoring committee to look into the problems faced by students from the northeastern states, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday.

Kejriwal told a delegation of students who called on him that he will look into their other demands, including northeast culture in the curriculum of Delhi government schools, and setting up of community centres.

Kejriwal assured the students that the government "will set up the cell immediately to have a better coordination and resolution of your issues".

"The cell will look into all your problems and demands. We will put people who understand your problems in the cell," Kejriwal was quoted as saying by an official.

Students from the northeastern states have faced racial slurs and assaults in the national capital.

Kejriwal sought their help in designing the education syllabus, and said: "Please be a partner of the Delhi government, keep coming to us with suggestions and let us work as partners."

The delegation submitted a memorandum which read: "Thank you for meeting us today to look into the issues that continue to affect around 6-7 lakh northeast India community who are studying, working and residing here."
