The Delhi government Monday upgraded 10 judges in family courts to principal judges for smooth and faster functioning of such courts.
There are 9 family courts in Delhi but the government had last December decided to increase their number to 11.
"Presently, one post of principal judge and ten posts of judges have been functional in respect of family courts. In order to make available one post of principal judge in each family court, the cabinet has decided to upgrade the existing ten posts of judges to principal judges," said a Delhi government statement.
The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
