The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notice to the Delhi Jal Board and Delhi Development Authority on a plea that said birds and animals were dying because of poisonous and polluted water released from illegal factories.
A division bench of Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Jayant Nath sought response from the Delhi government, DJB and DDA by Aug 13 on the plea seeking clean water for animals and birds in the city.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Manoj Kumar which said animals and birds in the capital have been deprived of clean water to drink.
He said water treatment plants should be set up for purifying the polluted water to save birds, animals, trees and the environment.
The plea said there was a green forest in Tughlakabad area on DDA land. Residents of the area were running illegal factories and using chemicals and the filthy, polluted, hazardous water was flowing to the forest.
An "artificial lake" has been created and the polluted water "is spreading in the whole forest".
