The Delhi lawyers' strike, which began last Wednesday to protest against the delay in passing the amended bill on enhancing the pecuniary jurisdiction of district courts, was on Tuesday extended till May 2.

The lawyers, who were scheduled to hold a rally outside parliament on April 28, have now postponed this for May 1.

The co-ordination committee of bar associations of district courts in Delhi said that despite assurances, the government has not cleared the proposed bill enhancing the pecuniary jurisdiction to Rs.2 crore.

Committee chairman R.K. Wadhwa demanded the bill be passed in the ongoing parliament session.

Judicial work in six city courts - Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Rohini, Karkardooma, Saket and Dwarka - has been paralysed since April 22.
