A 21-year-old man has been arrested here for attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl staying in his neighbourhood, police said Sunday.
The incident took place Saturday evening in central Delhi's Nabi Karim area.
Mohammad Asghar, who stays in a rented accommodation in Nabi Karim and works in a private bag manufacturing unit, was arrested Sunday from a nearby area after he left his house following the incident.
"He lured the victim, a Class 2 student of a government school, to an isolated spot after finding her playing alone near her house Saturday evening. When he tried to rape the girl, she began shouting forcing him to abandon her and flee," a police official said.
"The girl rushed back home and narrated the incident to her mother. Her father immediately approached police and lodged a complaint," the official said.
The girl told police that the accused had also tried to do the same thing with her five days ago when she was playing near her house.
