Delhi Metro will have its first green power sub-station that will have solar power panels, wetland sewage treatment plant, water meters, LED bulbs, CO2 sensors and other eco-friendly features, a statement said on Friday.

Located at Sector 46 in Faridabad on the Badarpur-Faridabad metro corridor, the green sub-station will generate its own electricity to power its lighting and air-conditioning.

It will transfer the surplus power to the metro network after meeting its needs.

Receiving Sub-Stations (RSS) get power from main electric sources and transfer it to the metro network. The Delhi Metro network is served by 12 RSS across the National Capital Region and this is the first individual green RSS.

The sub station is fixed with solar power panels with a capacity of 50 KW to provide green electricity to the RSS building.

For minimal power consumption, entire indoor and outdoor lighting has been done with LED bulbs and CO2 sensors and will maintain good air quality.
