Delhi Police impart self-defence training to girls

Delhi Police have imparted self-defence training to young girls in several parts of the national capital under its 'Say No to Fear' programme.

According to police, a total of 1,302 girls of Delhi's Janta Vihar area were given self-defence training under the aegis of 'Parivartan Cell' of north-west district. The participants were aged between eight to 20 years.

"During the 15-day training programme 1,302 participants were taught self-defence techniques, including punches, knife attack, board or tiles breaking and coconut breaking and also given demo of various other techniques," Deputy Commissioner of Police N. Gnanasambandham said.

"A similar programme was organised at Ashok Vihar in Delhi where 155 girl students were imparted self-defence training," Gnanasambandham added.

Participants expressed confidence and said they felt better now about their security after undergoing the training.

"As many as 6,888 girls have been imparted self-defence training under the aegis of Parivartan Cell of North-West District during 2015," he said.
