Delhi sees over 500 burn cases on Diwali

Over 500 cases of burn injuries were reported across the national capital on Diwali caused by fire crackers, according to reports from hospitals.

Hospital that witnessed the highest number of cases included Safdarjung, Ram Manohar Lohia (RML), Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB), Deen Dayal Upadhyay, and Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan hospitals, all of which were designated by the Delhi government to deal with cases related to burn injuries and fire cracker accidents.

Safdarjung Hospital, which has the largest burns unit in the country, received 192 cases.

"Of the 192 patients, 50 percent were children," said Karoon Agrawal, head of the burns and plastic surgery department of Safdarjung Hospital.

Safdarjung Hospital had received 234 burn cases during Diwali last year.

A total of 85 burn patients were received by RML Hospital, of whom four patients had almost 30 percent burns.

GTB Hospital received 153 burn cases. A doctor said all the patients were given first aid and sent home.

"We received 153 patients who suffered facial and hand injuries due to cracker bursting," the doctor told IANS.

Lok Nayak Hospital received 45 patients, including two who were admitted there, while Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital attended to almost 150 burn cases.
