The Delhi Jal Board (DJB), which here on Wednesday withdrew water connections to bottling plants, cooling plants and for selling or packaging of water in jars, cans and bottles, has exempted the street-side water vendors.

The board has allowed vendors to fill up their vending machines from any legitimate source of water.

"It has been decided to allow the street-side water vendors to fill up their vending machines from any legitimate source of water. It was decided to allow them to fill their vending machines looking at the cheap rates at which they sell water and their usability to the people, especially as summers are approaching," the DJB said in a statement.

The decision of withdrawing connection was taken by the DJB to stop commercial exploitation and make water available to consumers.

The exemption decision was taken at a meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who also heads the DJB.

The DJB had announced earlier this month that it would withdraw water connections to bottling plants, cooling plants and for selling or packaging of water in jars, cans and bottles.

"Wherever the water is available through water connections in such units, it is directed to disconnect it from the ferrule and where there is borewell or groundwater source in such units, it is directed to immediately write to the area SDM to seal such bore wells," the DJB said.
