Sweltering heat wave conditions continued unabated in the national capital on Friday as the maximum temperature settled four notches above the season's average at 39.8 degrees Celsius and no respite seems in sight over the weekend.
The Met Office as well as private weather forecaster, Skymet have predicted rain on Friday night. However, Skymet added that the city will again witness a dry and hot spell over the weekend and showers will occur in the city between July 6 and 9.
"Parts of the city are likely to get lashed by showers tonight," an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.
Skymet too said that rain will occur in the city on Friday night.
"If it doesn't rain then the next two days (Saturday and Sunday) will again be dry and sunny. However, starting July 6, incessant rain will lash the city till July 9," Skymet official Mahesh Palawat told IANS.
Palawat said the rain will be caused by the monsoon trough which is at the foothills of the Himalayas and will soon start moving south towards Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
