Shikhar Dhawan played a fine captain's innings of 71 to guide Sunrisers Hyderabad to a convincing eight-wicket win over Kandurata Maroons with nine balls to spare in the second qualifying match of the Champions League Twenty20 at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium here Tuesday.
Dhawan, who hit 11 fours in his 53-ball innings, and Parthiv Patel (52 off 42 balls), set the tone for the chase, target of 169 runs, with their 121-run first wicket stand.
Thisara Perera, who remained unbeaten on 32, finished off things in style with a four and six to bring up the winnings runs as Sunrisers made 174 for two in 18.3 overs.
Earlier, Kumar Sangakkara smashed an unbeaten 61 as Kandurata Maroons scored a challenging 168 for three against Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sri Lankan side was in deep trouble after both the openers were back in the dugout inside first five over.
But Sangakkara, who plays for Sunrisers in the IPL, and skipper Lahiru Thirimanne (54) bailed them out with a 89-run stand for the third wicket as the Maroons reached 168 for three in 20 overs.
