PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Friday demanded that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami and other ministers concerned meet information technology (IT) companies' officials in the wake of layoff reports and ensure that no one is retrenched in the state.
Referring to the large-scale layoffs reported in many IT companies in Tamil Nadu due to visa restrictions imposed by the United States, Ramadoss claimed US-based Cognizant Technology Solution and India's Infosys, Wipro and other IT firms had decided to lay off several thousand employees in Tamil Nadu alone.
In a statement here, Ramadoss said on a complaint by the Forum of IT Employees (FITE) to the Labour Department, a meeting was held between Cognizant management, FITE, and department officials.
He said the Cognizant management maintained the employees are quitting on their own.
Ramadoss said Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana are also facing a similar problem but the ministers there are discussing the issue with the companies.
