DMK leader M.K. Stalin on Thursday said the party will hold peaceful protests against Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit in districts where he goes for review of development works.

In a statement here, Stalin said Purohit should stop his political work of reviewing projects in various districts and order Chief Minister K. Palaniswami to prove his government's majority in the Assembly.

Stalin's statement came after Purohit met officials of the cyclone-hit Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. He earlier held meetings with district officials of Coimbatore and Tirupur, Stalin said.

On November 20, a statement from the Governor's office quoted Purohit as saying that his recent review meeting with officials of Coimbatore was within the framework of the Constitution and he would continue to hold such meetings.

"There was no attempt to short-circuit the official channels or force a meeting," the statement said. "While conducting such meetings, the Governor never violated any law or the constitution," the Raj Bhavan said.
