A biopic on designer Donatella Versace is based on fiction and not fact, says a spokesperson of upmarket fashion label Versace.
The film tells the story of the fashion legacy which Donatella has created. The movie is an adaptation of Deborah Ball's 2010 novel "House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder and Survival", and has actress Gina Gershon as the leading lady.
"Since Versace did not authorise the book on which it is based, the movie should only be seen as a work of fiction," WWD quoted a spokesperson from the fashion house as saying.
"Versace has neither authorised nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV movie about Mrs. Versace," the source added.
