Eastern Railway to step up security for coming festivals

Security arrangements will be stepped up, additional RPF staff posted at platforms and foot over bridges in sensitive stations, and patrolling of tracks intensified as part of Eastern Railway's bid to prevent any untoward incident during the coming festivals, an official release said on Friday.

In order to resist criminals and prevent anti-social activities in railway premises, trains and railway stations, the ER has also decided to conduct surprise checks to see the level of alertness ahead of and during the coming Kali Puja and Diwali, Jagatdhatri Puja and Chhat Puja festivals.

An ER release said the four-fold objectives for the enhanced security measures include precautionary steps against violent and subversive activities, ensuring communal harmony, safety and security of passengers especially women and children during late hours.

"To facilitate safe, secured and hassle-free journey for lady passengers, security arrangements in ladies compartment will also be stepped up. Additional RPF staff will be deployed at platforms and foot over bridges in sensitive railway stations."

Security patrolling of railway track, especially over the Maoist affected section, will be strengthened.

Surprise checks and dacoity checks will be conducted at regular interval.

The ER has also decided on maximum utilisation of sniffer dog squads for checking at the important stations, passenger areas, and trains.

The disaster management team will also be kept in readiness to meet any exigency.
