Friends of Zac Efron, who was in rehab twice last year for cocaine abuse, are worried after the actor was recently spotted in a dangerous downtown area here.
Efron was reportedly hit on the mouth by a transient midnight Sunday under the Harbor Freeway, where cops are on high alert for drug deals and gangs.
None of Efron's believe Efron drove all the way to get sushi and that his car ran out of gas - the reasons he gave to policemen for being stuck in the area, reports tmz.com.
One of his friends said: "Zac's a loner. He goes out rarely and the idea of him driving for miles to go to some sushi restaurant in downtown Los Angeles after midnight is preposterous."
Several of his friends say his "bodyguard", who got attacked, is not a bodyguard at all.
He is a convicted drug dealer who has been spending a lot of time with Efron recently despite warnings from friends.
