Egypt has declared a three-month state of emergency in Sinai after a suicide car bombing killed 30 soldiers, according to the presidency.

The presidency said in a statement Friday night that the measure will come into effect from 5 a.m. Saturday for a duration of three months due to security reasons, Xinhua reported.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi also ordered a curfew in the areas near Egypt's borders with Israel and the Gaza Strip.

A car explosion targeting a security checkpoint in Sheikh Zuweid city has killed at least 30 soldiers Friday and wounded 28 others.

Attacks on security men and premises have been growing since the ouster of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi by the military in July 2013 and the massive security crackdown on his supporters, which left about 1,000 of them dead while thousands more were arrested.
