The Cairo Criminal Court Thursday handed down life sentences to two of the three defendants charged with sexually assaulting a group of women at Tahrir Square during the inauguration of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, state-run MENA news agency said.
Life sentences in Egypt are for 25 years.
The third defendant was sentenced to 20 years in jail.
The trio were referred by Egypt's top prosecutor to the Criminal Court June 14 after they were accused of kidnapping, raping, sexually attacking, attempting to murder and torturing a number of women.
