The Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across Uttar Pradesh with traditional fervour.
The main prayers were held at the Eidgah in Aishbagh in the state capital, where thousands of Muslims prayed for peace and harmony in the country.
This was for the first time that women were also allowed to offer Namaz at the Aishbagh Eidgah, where separate arrangements were made for the female devotees to offer their maiden prayers.
Adequate security arrangements were in place across the state to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the festival, a home department official told IANS.
Mass prayers were held in mosques at Kanpur, Agra, Moradabad, Bareilly, Firozabad and Budayun.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav led the political fraternity in wishing the Muslim community on the Eid.
