Eight Indian-origin people were injured, one of them critically, after a van they were travelling in fell down a cliff in New Zealand.

They were on their way to Hawke's Bay from Auckland airport in the North Island of New Zealand after receiving family members, who came from Australia when the horrific accident happened Thursday, TVNZ reported Friday.

All of them were admitted to Hawke's Bay Hospital.

Jagtar Singh, who is in his 30s, and his six-month old son Manmeet were brought to the hospital in a critical condition.

While Jagtar remains in the intensive care unit, doctors said the baby's condition has improved overnight.

Two girls, aged eight and nine, and a woman in her 30s are in serious but stable condition.

Three men, two aged 23 and one 33, are also in stable condition.
