A boat carrying illegal Syrian immigrants sank off Turkey's southwestern coast of the Aegean Sea Monday, a media report said.
Two of the immigrants swam for about two hours to Cavus Island near Bodrum village of Mugla province in western Turkey, Xinhua reported citing Dogan News Agency.
Turkish Coast Guard on rescue teams launched an operation as those survived said eight more people were missing, the report said.
Turkey is geographically positioned between Asia and Europe, and has become a major transit point for Middle Eastern and Asian migrants and refugees fleeing from poverty or conflict in their home countries.
