Filmmaker Shashilal Nair, who last directed the controversial 2002 film "Ek Chhotisi Love Story" with Manisha Koirala is back in the business and is all set to direct Mashhoor Amrohi, who is the grandson of legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, in a bold film.

Nair said his new film "Nagrik", which also stars Ester Noronha from the south, is a common man's love story.

"I have already shot for the entire film. This film is about common man's love story and it is very bold. This film is bold in terms of its thought," Nair told IANS.

He will release the movie, produced by Tajdar Amrohi under the Kamal Amrohi Pictures banner, mid-2016.

Asked why he took such a long break post "Ek Chhotisi Love Story" -- a controversial movie on a teenager's voyeuristic love for his neighbour -- Nair said: "I was very upset with whatever happened with that film. I was very hurt and I wanted to stay out of all this for a while. I just wanted to relax. I feel the film was made controversial unnecessarily."

Nair, who also directed the Shah Rukh Khan starrer "One 2 Ka 4", had won the National Film Award for Best Special Effects for his 1993 release "Angaar".
